About Malcolm X |
Malcolm X also known as Malcolm Little was born on May 19, 1925 in Omaha, Nebraska. His mother, Louise Norton Little, was a person who managed their home and took care of eight children. His father, Earl Little, was an outspoken Baptist minister, Earl's strong beliefs and actions caused his family to move twice before Malcolm's fourth birthday.
People who disliked Earl's speeches burned their Michigan home down to the ground. Two years later, Earl's body was found lying across the town's trolley tracks. Police ruled both events were not an accident. Loose suffered an emotional breakdown and was put into a mental institution, while her children were split up among different foster homes and orphanages.
Malcolm grew up and followed in his father's footsteps. He was not afraid to give motivation civil right speeches. Once again many did not agree with what he was saying. Eventually, Malcolm and his long time friend, Malcolm "Shorty" Jarvis, moved back to Boston. In 1946, they were arrested and sent to jail for stealing. Malcolm was sentenced to 10 years in prison. Recalling his days in school, he used the time to further his education by reading. While in jail he converted to the Nation of Islam. This group advocated black nationalism and hated americans of european descent. Once out of jail, he continued to pursue speaking on behalf of black nationalism and civil rights. When the Nation of Islam became to radical he left the group and his own members killed him on February 21, 1965.
